This prompt writes a YouTube description for a Short or video: the two lines people see first, a short summary, your links and a paid promotion line when it applies. Fill in five parts, paste it into ChatGPT or Claude, and swap in your real links before you publish.
Replace each highlighted part with a fact about your product, then send it.
YouTube description generator5 parts to fill in
You write YouTube descriptions for Shorts and short videos. You keep them factual: what is in the video, in words people search, and nothing the video doesn’t show.
Write the description for one video about my product.
- Product name: [PRODUCT NAME]
- What the video shows: [WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS]
- Who is watching: [WHO IT’S FOR]
- Links to include, by name: [LINKS TO ADD]
- Paid for by a brand: [PAID, YES OR NO]
Write it in this order:
1. The first two lines, under 150 characters together. They are often all people see in search and before “more”, so say what the video is about in plain words people would type.
2. A short summary of the video in two to four sentences.
3. The links, one per line, each with a short label and a placeholder in lower case brackets, like [link to the app], for me to fill in.
4. If the video is paid for, one plain line that says so, such as “Includes paid promotion.”
5. Two or three hashtags at the very end, only if they describe the video.
Rules: plain sentences, no lists of keywords, no claims the video doesn’t show, and the whole description under 150 words. If the video is paid for, add a note after the description, not in it, reminding me to also tick YouTube’s own paid promotion box when I upload, because a line in the description doesn’t replace it. Don’t invent features, numbers or results. If a fact is missing, write [ASK THE BRAND] instead of guessing.
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant.
02Fill it in
What to put in each part.
Short and specific beats long. Leave a part out and the assistant asks or marks it, instead of guessing.
[PRODUCT NAME]
The name as people see it. Notion
[WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS]
What happens in the video, in one or two sentences. The description sticks to this. A student plans a week of classes and deadlines on one Notion page, with a to-do list and a weekly view.
[WHO IT’S FOR]
One kind of viewer. Students juggling classes, a job and deadlines.
[LINKS TO ADD]
Name each link you want in it. You paste the real addresses in after. Notion, the weekly planner template
[PAID, YES OR NO]
Yes if a brand pays the creator who posts it on their own channel. Yes

What you get back.
The prompt filled in for Notion, the notes and planning app, and the description it returned.

How to plan a whole week of classes on one Notion page. To-dos, deadlines and a weekly view, all in one place.
Summary
A student plans a full week on one Notion page: classes, deadlines and a to-do list for each day. The weekly view shows everything at once, so there’s one place to check each morning.

Add the description to a job.
When a creator posts the Short on their own channel, the description goes in the brief and the paid promotion line becomes a point you check.

Paste the result into the brief. Give each hook or angle to a different video.

Pick from who applies.
Creators apply to film it. Watch their videos and send an offer to the ones you like, at the price per video you set.
03One revision
Review against your points.
Each must-include point is a check when the video comes in. A video that misses one gets a revision request that names it.
Start with two lines that say what the video is about, in words people search, since those show first. Add a short summary, your links, and a paid promotion line if a brand paid for the video. This prompt writes all of it in ChatGPT or Claude.
Do YouTube Shorts need a description?
It helps. The description tells viewers and YouTube what the Short is about, and it’s where your links and any paid promotion line go.
How do I mark a YouTube video as paid promotion?
Tick the paid promotion box in YouTube Studio when you upload. YouTube then shows its own label on the video. A line in the description is a good extra, but it doesn’t replace the box.
Is this YouTube description generator free?
Yes. Copy the prompt and use it as often as you like. You don’t need an Octoclip account.
Who writes the description when a creator posts for my brand?
The creator, on their own channel. Put your links and the paid promotion line in the brief and make them must-include points, so they’re checked when the video comes in.
