In short
What is CPM?
CPM means cost per mille: what you pay for 1,000 impressions of an ad. The formula is cost divided by impressions, times 1,000. If 120,000 impressions cost 500, the CPM is 4.17. Advertisers use CPM to compare how expensive it is to reach people across platforms, audiences and individual ads.
A marketplace where brands hire real creators for ad videos and posts, at a fixed price per video.
An ad network. You run your ads in your own TikTok and Meta accounts.
The formulaCost per mille
CPM =cost ÷ impressions × 1,000
- To get impressions from a budget
- budget ÷ CPM × 1,000
- To get the cost of an ad

How to read it
How to calculate CPM, and how to read it.
Five things to know before you compare one CPM with another.
- 01
Use the formula
CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1,000. To get impressions from a budget, turn it round: budget ÷ CPM × 1,000.
- 02
Compare like with like
CPM changes with country, audience, placement and time of year. Set an ad against your own past ads on the same platform, not against a number from another market.
- 03
Look at each ad, not the account
An account average hides the one ad people watch and the three they skip. Check CPM per ad.
- 04
Change the creative first
The video is the part of an ad you fully control. New creative is the quickest thing to test when reach gets expensive: see UGC ads.
- 05
Work out a creator post the same way
A creator post has a CPM too: the fixed price you paid, divided by its views, times 1,000.

FAQ
CPM, answered.
What people ask about CPM, and how Octoclip prices a video.
What is the CPM formula?
CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1,000. Spend 500 for 120,000 impressions and the CPM is 500 ÷ 120,000 × 1,000 = 4.17.
What is a good CPM?
There is no single good number. CPM depends on the platform, the country, the audience and the season, so the useful comparison is with your own earlier campaigns.
How do I calculate impressions from CPM?
Impressions = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000. A budget of 1,000 at a CPM of 5 buys about 200,000 impressions. For TikTok, see TikTok ads cost.
What is the difference between CPM, CPC and CPA?
CPM is the cost of 1,000 impressions, CPC the cost of one click and CPA the cost of one customer or sign-up. They measure the same spend at three depths. Try the CPA calculator and the ROAS calculator.
Does Octoclip charge by CPM?
No. Creators on Octoclip are never paid by views or impressions. Octoclip does not sell or guarantee downloads, installs or views. You pay a fixed price for each approved video.
How much does new ad creative cost?
Posting a job, reviewing applicants and sending offers are free. You set a fixed price per video and pay only when a creator accepts your offer. The full amount is shown before you send the offer.
