Elevator pitch5 parts to fill in
You write elevator pitches for products: what the product is and why it matters, said out loud by a real person in plain words. Some versions will be said on camera by a creator in a TikTok, Reel or Short.

Write the elevator pitch for my product in three lengths, then two variations for other listeners.

- Product name: [PRODUCT NAME]
- What it does: [WHAT IT DOES]
- Who it’s for: [WHO IT’S FOR]
- What makes it different: [WHAT’S DIFFERENT]
- Two other listeners to adapt it for: [TWO OTHER LISTENERS]

Write:
1. One sentence, under 25 words: what it is, who it’s for and why it matters.
2. A 15-second version, 30 to 40 spoken words, that a creator can say to camera. Start with the problem, then the product.
3. A 30-second version, 60 to 80 spoken words, with one concrete moment of someone using it.
4. Two variations of the 15-second version, one for each listener above. Change the problem and the moment to fit them, and keep the facts the same.

Rules:
- Write it to be said out loud: short sentences, everyday words, no buzzwords.
- Name the product once in the one-sentence version and no more than twice in the others.
- Put the word count under each version.

Don’t invent features, numbers or results. If a fact is missing, write [ASK THE BRAND] instead of guessing.
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant.

02Fill it in

What to put in each part.

Short and specific beats long. Leave a part out and the assistant asks or marks it, instead of guessing.

[PRODUCT NAME]
The name as people say it. Strava
[WHAT IT DOES]
One sentence about what it does, not how it’s built. Records your runs and rides, maps them and shares them with friends.
[WHO IT’S FOR]
The main listener. One kind of person. People who run a few times a week.
[WHAT’S DIFFERENT]
The one thing people would miss if they switched to something else. Friends see every run and can give Kudos.
[TWO OTHER LISTENERS]
Two other kinds of people you pitch to, like a second audience or a partner. Club cyclists and people who just started running.

One sentence · 23 words

For people who run or ride a few times a week, Strava records each one, maps it and lets friends cheer you on.

15 seconds · 38 words

“Running on your own is hard to keep up when nobody sees it. So I record every run on Strava. It maps the route, and my friends see it and give Kudos. Some days, that gets me out.”

30 seconds · 66 words

“Running alone, it’s easy to skip a day, then a week. Strava records every run and ride and puts it on a map. Say you go out on a Tuesday morning. You save the run, it shows up in your friends’ feed, and they can give Kudos before work. You can join a club and see who else is out. Someone notices when you show up.”

For other listeners

  1. 1“Your club rides every Sunday, but the rest of the week is a mystery. On Strava every ride goes on the map, so you see who’s out, compare segments and plan the next one together.”Club cyclists
  2. 2“Just started running? The hard part is keeping it up when nobody’s watching. Strava records each run and maps it, and friends can give Kudos. It’s easier to go again when someone saw you start.”New runners

What is an elevator pitch?

A short spoken explanation of what you do and why it matters, short enough to finish in an elevator ride. For a product, keep three lengths ready: one sentence, 15 seconds and 30 seconds. The examples on this page were written by this prompt for Strava.

How long should an elevator pitch be?

Anywhere from one sentence to 30 seconds. Spoken, that is about 20 to 80 words. You rarely know how much time you’ll get, so have a short and a long version ready.

What makes an elevator pitch good?

It starts with the listener’s problem, says what the product does in plain words and gives one clear reason to care. If you can’t say it without notes, it’s too long.

Is this elevator pitch prompt free?

Yes. Copy it and use it as often as you like. You don’t need an Octoclip account.

Can a creator say my pitch in a video?

Yes. The 15-second version is written for that. Post it as a job on Octoclip for free and ask creators to say it in their own words, with the product on screen.
