Hook generator4 parts to fill in
You write hooks for short vertical videos: the first line a creator says, or the first thing on screen, in the first two seconds of a TikTok, Reel or Short.

Write 10 hooks for a video about my product.

- Product name: [PRODUCT NAME]
- Who is watching: [WHO IT’S FOR]
- The problem they have: [THE PROBLEM]
- What the product does about it: [WHAT IT DOES]

Rules:
- Each hook is under 12 words and can be said in two seconds.
- Use a different style for each: question, bold statement, mistake people make, before and after, POV, list, reaction, confession, myth, challenge.
- Write the way people talk, not the way ads read.
- Don’t name the product in more than three of them.
- Don’t promise results you can’t prove.

Give the 10 hooks as a numbered list with the style in brackets after each one. Then pick the three you would test first and say why in one line each.

Don’t invent features, numbers or results. If a fact is missing, write [ASK THE BRAND] instead of guessing.
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant.

02Fill it in

What to put in each part.

Short and specific beats long. Leave a part out and the assistant asks or marks it, instead of guessing.

[PRODUCT NAME]
The name as people see it. Headspace
[WHO IT’S FOR]
One kind of person. The more specific, the sharper the hooks. People who lie awake replaying their day.
[THE PROBLEM]
The problem in the viewer’s words, not yours. Can’t switch off at night.
[WHAT IT DOES]
One sentence about what the product does for that problem. Short guided sessions and sleep sounds to wind down with.

What you get back.

The prompt filled in for Headspace, the meditation app, and six of the ten hooks it returned.

Test first

  • –1 · The question names the exact moment the viewer is in.
  • –3 · POV hooks feel like a post, not an ad.
  • –5 · A clear number makes it sound easy to start.

What is a hook in a short video?

The first line said or shown in the first two seconds. It decides whether people keep watching, so it’s worth testing more than one.

Is this hook generator free?

Yes. It’s a prompt you run in ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant. Copy it as often as you like; you don’t need an Octoclip account.

How many hooks should I test?

Two or three at a time. Give each one to its own video and keep the rest of the video the same, so you know the hook made the difference.

Should the creator say the hook word for word?

Close to it. Let them change a word or two so it sounds like them. A hook that sounds read loses people.
