PromptBriefs

Shot list template for phone videos.

This prompt writes the shot list for one short video: each shot, its type, where to film it and whether it’s a must-have. Give it your product and the video idea in ChatGPT or Claude, and a creator can film everything in one session.

Shot list template4 parts to fill in
You are a producer who plans phone shoots for UGC videos. The creator films alone, on their own phone, at home or nearby.

Write a shot list for one short video about my product.

- Product name: [PRODUCT NAME]
- The video idea: [THE IDEA IN ONE SENTENCE]
- Where it will be filmed: [PLACES THE CREATOR CAN USE]
- How many finished videos I need from this shoot: [NUMBER OF VIDEOS]

Give me a table with these columns:
Shot number | Shot type (close-up, wide, selfie to camera, screen recording, hands only) | What is in frame | Where | Length | Must-have or nice-to-have

Then:
- Put the shots in the order that is easiest to film, not the order of the edit.
- Mark at most six shots as must-have.
- Add two extra opening shots, so the first two seconds can be tested.
- End with a short checklist the creator ticks before they stop filming.

Keep it practical for one person with a phone. Don’t invent features, numbers or results. If a fact is missing, write [ASK THE BRAND] instead of guessing.
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any other assistant.

02Fill it in

What to put in each part.

Short and specific beats long. Leave a part out and the assistant asks or marks it, instead of guessing.

[PRODUCT NAME]
The name as people see it. Spotify
[THE IDEA IN ONE SENTENCE]
What happens in the video, start to finish. Building a road-trip playlist with a friend before we leave.
[PLACES THE CREATOR CAN USE]
Rooms or spots the creator has. Fewer places means a faster shoot. A car, a kitchen table.
[NUMBER OF VIDEOS]
One shoot can cover two or three cuts if the shots allow it. 2

  2. 2Screen recording: creating a playlist called “Road trip”. Must-have.5 s
  3. 3Hands only: both phones side by side, adding songs. Must-have.4 s
  4. 4Selfie to camera: “You get to pick one song. One.” Opening option A.2 s
  5. 5Close-up: the friend’s face reacting to a song choice. Opening option B.2 s
  6. 6Car, wide from the back seat: pulling out of the drive. Must-have.3 s
  7. 7Close-up: the phone on the dash, playlist playing. Must-have.3 s
  8. 8Both singing along, filmed from the passenger side. Must-have.5 s
  9. 9Window view of the road, music still playing. Nice-to-have.3 s

Before you stop filming

  • Every must-have shot is filmed twice.
  • The screen recording shows the playlist name clearly.
  • Both openings are filmed, so the first two seconds can be tested.
  • No other music app or brand is on screen.

What is a shot list?

A list of every shot to film for one video, with the shot type, what is in frame, where it is filmed and how long it runs. It keeps a shoot short and makes sure nothing is missing in the edit.

What is the difference between a shot list and a storyboard?

A storyboard follows the order of the finished video. A shot list follows the order that is easiest to film. For phone videos, the storyboard template and this shot list work well together.

Is this shot list template free?

Yes. Copy the prompt and use it as often as you like. You don’t need an Octoclip account.

Why film two openings?

The first two seconds decide whether people keep watching. With two openings filmed, you can post or advertise both and keep the one that holds attention.
